One of the biggest concerns many parents have is classroom placement. At Imagine School at Town Center, we are committed to the academic success, personal growth and general well-being of students. We spend a great deal of time, thought and energy ensuring that every child is placed in a classroom where he/she can thrive. The following describes the procedure we will use at Imagine Town Center as we place students in classes for 2017-2018.
In late spring 2017, current grade classroom teachers will provide input and the administrative team will meet to discuss student needs and form classes for the upcoming school year. In order to create a class where all students can learn and grow classes need to be balanced based on several factors. We want to have an even mix of boys and girls, a range of learning abilities and interests, compatible student personalities are considered, and finally, classes need to be as equal as possible in terms of overall numbers. With approximately 900 students to consider at Imagine Town Center, you can well imagine what an important and monumental task this can be. After all is said and done, the finished product is a school where all students learn and thrive.
Parent input in this process is certainly welcome, thus the input form has been designed for this purpose. We request that you list your student’s needs and learning style rather than asking for a specific teacher. There are several reasons for this procedure. We could encounter a situation where the team feels two or more students should not be in the same class, yet their parents have requested the same teacher. There may be other factors which prevent requested placement including confidential factors concerning other students. Additionally, staff changes may occur, which may prevent placing your student in a specific room. Accepting requests for specific teachers from the bulk of our parents would make assigning students to classes very difficult, if not impossible. We are confident in the skill and the dedication of each of our teachers as they work to meet the needs of each and every student placed in their classrooms.
Parents who complete the optional input form will need to have the form completed and turned in to the office no later than May 1, 2017. Meetings to determine class placements will occur during the month of May. Although current year teachers are involved in the process, they should not be put in the difficult position of discussing their teacher colleagues. Parents and teachers are certainly able to discuss the approaches that have been effective with students and the learning needs of those students. That information can be used in the placement process. However, teachers have been asked not to discuss specific teachers for the coming year with parents. Our common goal is to make the school experience the best it can possibly be for every child. Imagine Town Center is fortunate to have excellent teachers who put children first. We pledge to you that we will do all that we can to make your child’s education enjoyable, exciting, purposeful, and personalized.
