Parent Checklist

The purpose of the Florida Parent Checklist is to support parent’s involvement in their child’s educational progress by identifying actions and linking to resources that:

  1. Strengthen the child’s academic progress, especially in the area of reading;
  2. Strengthen the child’s citizenship, especially social skills and respect for others;
  3. Strengthen the child’s realization of high expectations and setting lifelong learning goals; and
  4. Emphasize communication between the school and the home.

ACADEMIC

  1. Support reading with age appropriate home activities.
  2. Ensure that your child has a consistent time and place to do homework.
  3. Ensure that your child has access to materials needed to complete assignments.
  4. Discuss school work regularly with your child.
  5. Attend workshops on helping your child at home.
  6. Visit the local library and encourage your child to check out books of interest.
  7. Read to/with your child on a daily basis.
  8. Set an example by reading in your home and discussing what you’ve read with your child.
  9. Ask your child to explain his/her math homework.
  10. Emphasize the importance of education and doing one’s best in school.

CITIZENSHIP

  1. Teach and reinforce positive behaviors such as respect for self and others, hard work and responsibility.
  2. Ensure that your child has a regular routine.
  3. Encourage your child to accept responsibility for his/her actions.
  4. Ensure that your child is in attendance and on time to school each day.
  5. Monitor and promote your child’s participation in extracurricular and after-school activities.
  6. Monitor your child’s television viewing.
  7. Reinforce the school’s behavioral expectations.

SCHOOL TO HOME COMMUNICATION

  1. Communicate regularly with your child’s teacher(s) in person, by telephone, through email or writing.
  2. Prepare for and attend parent-teacher conferences and/or other individualized student meetings, such as
  3. Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or Academic Improvement Plan meetings.
  4. Attend open houses, science fairs, plays and musical performances, field trips, sporting events,
  5. curriculum nights and other school activities.
  6. Volunteer in the school setting when possible.

UNITY DAY, the signature event for National Bullying Prevention Month, took  place Wednesday, October 21 at Imagine School at Town Center campus wide. Kindergarteners unite in peace here on the PE field.

Middle school & tweens – deodorant and feminine hygiene products should also be packed.
